YouTube Premium is introducing a range of new features and experimental updates. The main highlight is the ‘jump ahead’ feature, which allows users to skip to the most popular parts of a video. Users just need to double tap the right side of a video and then click the ‘jump ahead’ button. YouTube will then automatically bring the user to the part of the video most commonly skipped to. This feature is powered by YouTube’s internal watch data and AI.
Another significant update is the introduction of picture-in-picture (PiP) for YouTube Shorts. This feature allows users to view short-form videos in PiP mode while multitasking within other apps. However, this feature seems to be currently available only on Android devices.
In addition to these, YouTube is also testing a range of experimental features exclusively for YouTube Premium subscribers. These include Shorts Smart Downloads, which automatically downloads recommended YouTube Shorts videos for offline viewing. This feature is also currently available only on Android devices.
