Apple’s Mac has seen a surge in its market share in the US, according to a new market intelligence report. In the first quarter of 2024, the US Mac market share grew by 22.4%, a stark contrast to the 5% growth for the US PC market as a whole. This growth is likely attributed to the launch of the new MacBook Air models in March.
The report also highlights that PC shipments to the US grew by 5% year-on-year to 14.8 million units in Q1 2024, with the consumer and SMB segments witnessing shipment increases above 9% year-on-year. The report predicts an 8% growth for the next year, driven by new enterprise sales prompted by Microsoft’s announcement that support for Windows 10 is ending and the desire to take advantage of new AI capabilities driving sales of new PCs and Apple Silicon Macs.
Mac shipments are estimated to have grown from 1.7M in the first quarter of 2023 to 2.1M in the same quarter this year, giving Apple a 14.2% share of the US PC market. The launch of the new M3-powered MacBook Air models in March was likely one of the main reasons for this growth. Looking ahead, Apple Intelligence features launching on Mac later this year will require an Apple Silicon machine, likely prompting a significant slice of Intel Mac users to upgrade.
