Google Reverts to Pagination in Search Results

Google has decided to abandon the continuous scroll feature in its search results, returning to the traditional pagination format. The change, which was reported by Search Engine Land, began on June 25 and will be implemented on mobile search results in the coming months.

The continuous scroll feature was introduced in December 2022, allowing users to view up to six pages of search results by simply scrolling down. However, Google has now reversed this decision, citing the need to serve results faster on more searches and avoid automatically loading results that haven’t been requested. The company also stated that continuous scrolling did not lead to significantly higher user satisfaction with Google Search.

The new pagination format will look similar to the previous one, with an elongated “Gooooooooogle” logo and pages from 1 to 10 listed below. This change may impact pages that are on the second, third, and subsequent pages, as they might receive fewer clicks. Despite this, most users are likely to benefit from faster loading of search results.
