Musk Claims Optimus Robots Could Skyrocket Tesla’s Market Cap To $25 Trillion

Elon Musk has made a bold claim that his company’s Optimus humanoid robots could potentially increase Tesla’s market cap to $25 trillion. This statement was made at Tesla’s 2024 annual shareholder meeting. As of the close of that day, Tesla had a market cap of about $580 billion.

Musk’s vision for Optimus is ambitious. He envisions these robots performing tasks like cooking, cleaning, factory work, and even teaching children. He also hinted that these robots might perform like the iconic Star Wars characters R2-D2 and C-3PO.

However, the Optimus robots have faced criticism. A demo video released in January, showing the robots folding laundry, was criticized by robotics engineers for being deceptive as the robots were not autonomous but were being operated by humans.

Despite the skepticism, Musk is optimistic about the future of Optimus. He announced plans to move into “limited production” of Optimus in 2025 and test out humanoid robots in Tesla’s own factories next year. He predicted that Tesla will have “over 1,000, or a few thousand, Optimus robots working at Tesla” in 2025.
