Musk Withdraws Lawsuit Against OpenAI

Elon Musk has dropped a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, which accused them of breaching a founding promise by prioritizing profits over humanity. Musk had alleged that OpenAI had become a “de facto subsidiary” of Microsoft Corp., violating a founding agreement to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity.

The lawsuit was withdrawn a day before a California judge was set to hear OpenAI’s request for dismissal. OpenAI had argued that Musk would use pretrial fact-finding and information sharing known as discovery in the San Francisco case to gain access to its proprietary records and technology.

OpenAI also denied that there was ever a founding agreement for it to breach or that it had promised to make its technology open-source, as Musk claimed.
