Elon Musk has threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies. This comes in response to Apple’s recent partnership with OpenAI, which Musk has labeled as an “unacceptable security violation.”
Apple’s partnership with OpenAI was announced at its annual developers conference. As part of the deal, Apple’s voice assistant Siri will be able to tap into OpenAI’s generative chatbot, ChatGPT. However, Musk has expressed concerns about whether Apple and OpenAI will adequately protect users’ information. He has criticized the software integration between the two companies and claimed that Apple has “no clue what’s actually going on.”
In a series of posts on his social media platform X, Musk stated that if Apple “integrates OpenAI at the OS level,” referring to Apple’s operating system, Apple devices would be banned from his companies. He also mentioned that visitors to his companies would be asked to check their Apple devices at the door.
Despite Apple’s assurance that users will be asked for permission to share their questions with ChatGPT and that their requests and information will not be logged, Musk remains skeptical. He has called out Apple for not being smart enough to create their own AI and questioned their ability to ensure that OpenAI will protect user security and privacy.
