Apple’s iOS 18, announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, introduces a new feature that allows users to record calls. This feature is designed with a strong emphasis on transparency and privacy.
When a call is being recorded, both parties will be notified to ensure transparency. The recording can be initiated or stopped at any point during the call. The recorded calls will be stored locally on the device and can be accessed in the Phone app.
In addition to call recording, iOS 18 also introduces several other features aimed at enhancing user privacy. One of these is Apple Intelligence, a new generative AI system that will appear in iOS and iPad 18 and macOS Sequoia. This system is designed to provide practical tools that most people can use regularly, such as new writing tools that can help rewrite, proofread, and summarize emails and other messages.
Apple Intelligence is built with privacy at its core. Most of the actions involved with Apple Intelligence will be done on-device, making the system as privacy-focused as possible. However, for queries that cannot be done on-device, users can use ChatGPT for free, provided they give permission for Apple to share their query with ChatGPT at the moment.
The first beta of iOS 18 was released on June 10, 2024, at WWDC. A public beta is expected to be released in July 2024, followed by a general release in September.
