Spotify has once again raised its subscription prices in the United States. The price increase affects both individual and group plans, making Spotify’s Premium tier more expensive than Apple Music.
The Spotify Premium Individual plan now costs $11.99 per month, up from $10.99, while the Family plan has increased to $19.99 per month. Interestingly, Spotify’s Duo plan, which allows two people in the same household to stream, is now priced at $16.99, the same as Apple Music’s Family plan that supports up to six family members.
Spotify has justified the price increase as a necessary step to continue investing in and innovating its product offerings and features. The company has been diversifying its content to include podcasts and audiobooks, and Spotify Premium now includes 15 hours of audiobook listening per month, a feature that Apple does not offer.
However, despite these additions, Spotify still lacks some long-requested music features like lossless audio or Spatial Audio. When these features do finally arrive, Spotify is expected to charge extra for them, unlike Apple Music where they are included at no additional charge.
