“Godzilla Minus One,” one of the best movies of 2023, has made a surprise appearance on Netflix and is available for digital rent or purchase. If you missed the chance to see it in theaters, you can now enjoy this critically acclaimed film from the comfort of your own home.
The film, which won Best VFX at the Oscars, was a massive financial success for live-action Japanese films. It was such a big hit that its weeklong run was extended, and it caught the attention of studios like Lucasfilm.
Along with the original theatrical version, which includes Japanese audio and English subtitles, there are audio dubs and subtitles available in English, Portuguese, Polish, and other languages. Both the regular colored and “Minus Color” black-and-white editions can be bought or rented individually on services like iTunes and Amazon. The “Minus Color” edition will be available on Netflix later in the summer.
There was some confusion around the circumstances of “Minus One’s” arrival on streaming and physical formats due to a contract between Toho and Legendary. The movie had to be taken out of theaters once “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” came out. This is presumably why a physical 4K/Blu-ray version hasn’t been released outside of Japan yet.
“Godzilla Minus One” is a big deal, and now you get to see it from the comfort of your own home. Enjoy the show!
