Moana 2 Trailer Reveals New Music and Dwayne Johnsons Return

Disney’s animated blockbuster Moana is setting sail again with its sequel, Moana 2. The first trailer for the movie has been released, teasing new characters and the return of favorites from the original film. Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson are reprising their roles as Moana and Maui respectively.

Three years since her first voyage, Moana is on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui. Joined by Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

The sequel to the hit 2016 film is set to be in theaters in November 2024. The trailer comes over a year after Johnson announced the film will also receive a live-action adaptation, currently scheduled for release in 2026.

David Derrick Jr. makes his directorial debut with Moana 2 as its director and writer after working with Disney on a number of its animated films in recent years. Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i return as songwriters and composers from the original, while The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical’s Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear will replace Lin-Manuel Miranda as additional songwriters.

In 2023, the first installment was the most-streamed movie of the year, according to Nielsen.
