Google’s Chromebook Plus Now Comes with AI-Powered Features

Google has announced the addition of new AI-powered features to its Chromebook Plus line of devices. These features include a writing assistant, a wallpaper creator, and easy access to Google’s Gemini chatbot. The writing assistant feature allows users to generate text from scratch using a prompt or rewrite existing text to make it more formal, shorter, or rephrase it altogether.

The wallpaper creator is a generative AI tool that helps users create custom wallpapers and video call backgrounds through guided prompts. This feature is built into the operating system and can be used regardless of the video conferencing app in use.

Google Photos on Chromebook Plus now includes a Magic Editor, a generative AI-powered tool that lets users edit photos with a few easy clicks. Users can select a photo, tap the “Magic Editor” button, and then tap or circle the object they want to edit. They can hold and drag to reposition objects, or pinch to resize them. The AI takes care of background regeneration based on the changes made.

Google has also integrated Gemini, its AI chatbot, into the Chromebook Plus interface. Users can tap the Gemini icon on the app shelf to start planning, writing, learning, and more. New Chromebook Plus users will get the Google One AI Premium plan for 12 months at no cost. This plan includes access to Gemini Advanced, 2TB of storage, and Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail.

In addition to these AI-powered features, Google has also made it easier to set up a new Chromebook device. Users can now scan a QR code from their Android phone during setup, and the phone will share essential details like Wi-Fi credentials and Google account information.
