Microsoft Edge Introduces Memory Limit Feature

Microsoft Edge has rolled out a new feature that allows users to limit the amount of memory the browser can use. This feature is part of the version 125 update and introduces a slider in the browser settings that users can adjust to control the maximum memory usage.

The slider can be set anywhere from 1GB to 16GB, depending on the total memory available on the user’s computer. However, setting the limit too low may affect the browser’s performance, so users are advised to allocate enough memory for Edge to function optimally.

This move is seen as Microsoft’s response to the common issue of high memory usage in web browsers, particularly those based on the Chromium engine like Edge and Google Chrome. By giving users the ability to limit memory usage, Microsoft aims to enhance the performance and efficiency of Edge.

In addition to the memory limit feature, the version 125 update also includes other enhancements such as customizable Edge workspaces, new Microsoft Purview dialogues, and support for generating QR codes directly in the browser.
