Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak believes that happiness, not accomplishment, is the true measure of a life well-lived. This was shared during a commencement speech at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Wozniak, who co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs, doesn’t measure his happiness by the size of Apple’s market cap or his personal net worth. Instead, he cherishes the jokes he told, the laughter he shared with family and friends, and the joy he derived from his passions. He encourages others to adopt a similar outlook.
He shared an equation for happiness: “H equals S minus F,” which translates to happiness equals smiles minus frowns. For Wozniak, smiles often come from family, music, and comedy. He believes that happiness is not a destination but a direction, and it’s more about our inner lives than external circumstances.
Wozniak’s love for comedy once got him into trouble at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he was expelled for hacking into the university’s computer systems and sending prank messages. Despite this setback, he went on to co-found Apple with Steve Jobs in 1976.
