The much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) from Rockstar Games is officially scheduled to launch in fall 2025. The announcement was made by parent company Take-Two Interactive in its Q4 2024 earnings report. The game’s release window, previously announced for 2025, has now been narrowed down to autumn of next year.
Take-Two Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed high confidence in Rockstar Games’ ability to deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience with GTA 6. The commercial impact of the title is expected to be significant.
The sixth mainline installment in the open-world series will be set in Leonida, Rockstar’s equivalent of Florida, with a focus mostly on Vice City, which is akin to Miami. Contrary to the 1980s setting of 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the new game appears to have a contemporary setting.
Fans can catch a glimpse of protagonists Jason and Lucia in the trailer. Despite the excitement around the game’s release, the market reacted with disappointment, leading to a drop in Take-Two’s shares in post-market trading. However, the fall 2025 release is sooner than some in the industry had expected, given previous reports of potential delays due to back-to-work mandates.
