After Mass Layoffs, Tesla Implements Near-Total Hiring Freeze in North America

Tesla has reportedly put a hiring freeze in place in North America. This comes after a series of layoffs that have impacted the company over the past month. As of a recent check, only three positions were listed on Tesla’s job board, all of which were for its manufacturing development program in Texas, California, or Nevada. This is a significant drop from the more than 3,400 postings that were offered across the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico at the beginning of May.

The company, which employed 140,000 people as of late last year, has been going through a period of restructuring. CEO Elon Musk has been pushing for cost reductions and increased productivity as the company prepares for its next phase of growth. This has resulted in what Musk referred to as “hardcore” job cuts, with at least 14,000 workers being laid off. In fact, Musk has been so serious about these cuts that he has reportedly asked any executive who retained more than three workers who don’t pass the “excellent, necessary and trustworthy test” to resign.
