President Joe Biden has announced Microsoft’s plans to invest $3.3 billion in a high-tech data center in Wisconsin, a key political battleground state. The facility, to be built in Racine County, is expected to create thousands of jobs and marks a significant boost for the local economy.
The data center will be constructed on the same land where Taiwan electronics manufacturer Foxconn had previously planned to build a $10 billion factory. Microsoft’s investment is expected to result in 2,300 union construction jobs and approximately 2,000 permanent jobs over time.
In addition to job creation, Microsoft will partner with Gateway Technical College to train 1,000 people for data center and other roles by 2030. The company also plans to train 1,000 business leaders to adopt AI in their operations.
