Rabbit, the company behind the R1 AI assistant, has refuted claims that its device is merely a glorified Android app. The controversy began when Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority managed to run the Rabbit R1’s launcher APK on a Google Pixel 6A, leading to speculation about the true nature of the device.
In response to these allegations, Rabbit has defended the uniqueness and capabilities of its device. The company emphasized that the R1 is more than just an Android app, describing it as a dedicated AI machine that acts like a walkie-talkie to a virtual assistant. The device, co-engineered by Teenage Engineering and Rabbit, features a 2.88-inch color display, an 8-megapixel camera, and a scroll wheel.
The Rabbit R1 has been compared to the Humane AI Pin, another AI assistant-centric device. However, Rabbit has highlighted several key differences between the two. The R1 is priced at $199, significantly less than the AI Pin’s $700 price tag. Unlike Humane, Rabbit does not require a monthly subscription fee for its device.
