Artificial intelligence takes a leap forward as ChatGPT Plus introduces a new memory feature. This feature allows the AI to remember key facts about conversations and apply this information to future interactions. It’s a shift from being a disinterested acquaintance to a friend who remembers your preferences.
The memory feature works in two ways. It can remember details implicitly, picking up interesting bits along the way, or it can remember what you explicitly tell it to. This means that if you tell ChatGPT Plus that you have a three-year-old who loves giraffes, it might suggest giraffe-themed birthday card ideas in future chats.
This update makes AI like ChatGPT Plus more useful and efficient. It can remember your preferences and use that information to provide better assistance. For instance, it can remember how you like your coffee in the morning or that you never want to schedule meetings before 10 AM.
However, if you find an AI that remembers multiple conversations a bit off-putting, you can easily opt out of the memories by using the “Temporary Chat” mode. You can also go into settings to remove memories or conversationally tell ChatGPT Plus to forget something.
This major update is currently available for all ChatGPT Plus users, except in Korea and Europe. It’s a significant step towards making AI more human-like and efficient.
