Tesla secures China’s approval for its Full Self-Driving service

Tesla has won China’s backing for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) service. The approval came after Elon Musk’s brief visit to Beijing and meetings with top officials. The US electric vehicle maker will deploy its autonomous driving services based on mapping and navigation functions provided by Chinese technology giant Baidu. This partnership clears a significant regulatory hurdle for Tesla to offer its driver-assistance system in China. Working with a Chinese company helps ease regulators’ concerns over any data security risks. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. This approval is a crucial victory for Tesla as it seeks to reignite its growth amid lower sales growth this year. The rollout of FSD in China would help Tesla compete with major Chinese carmakers that have already provided higher-level driver-assistance features.
