T-Mobile officially acquires Mint Mobile in a deal approved by FCC

T-Mobile has officially acquired Mint Mobile, a prepaid wireless brand, and its parent company Ka’ena Corporation. The acquisition, worth up to $1.35 billion, includes Ultra Mobile and Plum. T-Mobile plans to leverage Mint’s digital direct-to-consumer marketing capabilities to reach new customers and create more competition in wireless. The deal allows Mint to retain its current marketing strategy and its popular $15 USD plan. Devices purchased from Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile will now be unlocked after 60 days once paid off, making it easier to switch to a different carrier. This acquisition does not affect pricing for any cellular plans. However, concerns have been raised about T-Mobile’s security standards due to its history of data breaches.
