Recruiters turn to traditional methods to combat AI-induced application surge

Recruiters are reverting to traditional methods to manage the influx of applications facilitated by generative AI. The mass layoffs in the tech industry since late 2022 and the widespread use of generative AI have transformed the recruitment process, enabling people to apply for multiple roles simultaneously. This has led to an overload of applications, overwhelming recruiters and hiring managers. Job platforms like Indeed and LinkedIn are incorporating more generative AI to streamline the recruitment and job-hunting processes. However, some recruiters remain skeptical. Seven recruiters and hiring managers across tech and other industries expressed concerns about the new technology. They are apprehensive about the decision-making process of AI and its history of biased decisions. They want to understand the rationale behind AI’s decisions and desire more room for nuance before fully embracing it. Not all qualified applicants will perfectly fit a role, one recruiter pointed out. The recruiters are looking for more transparency and understanding in AI’s decision-making process before they can fully trust it.
