The Google Play Store has rolled out a feature that allows for the simultaneous download of two apps. This is a significant upgrade in user experience, especially for those setting up a new Android device. Previously, users had to wait for each app to download one at a time, which could be time-consuming when installing multiple apps.
Now, users can install two large apps, such as Google Docs and Sheets, simultaneously. However, this feature is currently limited to new app installations. If a third app is queued for download, it will remain in “Pending” status until one of the first two apps completes its process.
Unfortunately, this feature does not yet apply to app updates, which occur more frequently than new installs. This means that updates for existing apps will still need to be downloaded one at a time. However, it’s possible that Google may expand this functionality in the future.
This change has been observed on multiple Pixel phones and tablets running Android 14, and version 40.6.31 of the Play Store. Despite being a small change, it’s a step towards improving the overall user experience on the Play Store.
