Closing Background iPhone Apps Hurts Battery Life, Confirms Apple

Contrary to popular belief, swiping to close iPhone apps can actually hurt your iPhone’s battery life and even slow down your phone. Apple clarified in a recently updated support document that you should only close an app if it’s unresponsive. The misconception that these apps drain the battery in the background is inaccurate. Apple’s iOS and chips are so efficient at managing background tasks that it’s almost like the apps are frozen but load right where you left them once you need to reopen an already-used application. However, if you open an app, close it, and then open it again, the iPhone must go through the process of reloading the app from scratch, which consumes more battery life in the long term. So, if you want to save battery life, there are better tips to follow, such as updating to the latest software, using Auto Brightness all the time, keeping your iPhone on Wi-Fi all the time, enabling Low Power Mode, and turning off Background App Refresh entirely.
