Tesla Recalls All 3,878 Cybertrucks Due to Stuck Accelerator Pedal Issue

Tesla has issued a recall for all 3,878 Cybertrucks due to a serious issue causing the accelerator pedal to get stuck. This problem arose when an accelerator pedal cover would slide up and become lodged in the vehicle’s interior trim, causing the vehicle to continue accelerating even if the driver removed their foot from the pedal.

The issue was first reported to Tesla by a customer on March 31, and another similar incident was reported just days later on April 3. Tesla decided to issue a recall on April 12. The company will be sending notification letters to current Cybertruck owners in the coming months, and Cybertrucks awaiting delivery will receive the fix as well.

The cause of the problem was traced back to an unapproved change that introduced a lubricant (soap) to aid in the assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal. The residual lubricant reduced the retention of the pad to the pedal. This issue led Tesla to halt Cybertruck production and deliveries after videos from customers experiencing the accelerator pedal cover dislodging went viral on social media.

Unlike most Tesla recalls, which are usually fixed with a software update, this issue requires a physical fix. Owners will need to take their vehicles to a Tesla service center, where the accelerator pedal assembly will be replaced or repaired free of charge.
