Yale, a leader in smart home security, has introduced its first retrofit smart lock solution, the Yale Approach Lock with Wi-Fi, and the wireless Yale Keypad. This new product is designed to be retrofitted onto most existing deadbolts, making it an ideal solution for renters and first-time smart lock users.
The Yale Approach is an interior-only smart lock that doesn’t impact the look of your front door or change your original keys. It’s easy to install, requiring only a screwdriver and about 10 minutes of your time. Once installed, it offers features like Auto-Lock and Auto-Unlock. You can control the lock remotely via the Yale Access app, allowing you to let in a friend to water the plants or check on your pets even when you’re away from home.
The Yale Keypad is a wireless accessory that pairs perfectly with the Yale Approach or a compatible August smart lock. It allows you to lock the door with a touch of your finger and unlock it with a personalized code, all without keys or your smartphone. The keypad is weather-resistant and can be placed anywhere within the lock’s Bluetooth range.
Both the Yale Approach and the Yale Keypad are compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Philips Hue, and Samsung SmartThings, allowing you to integrate the smart lock with your preferred smart home platform. Yale plans to release a version later this year that will let you unlock the door with your fingerprint.
The Yale Approach, available in black suede or silver, costs $130, while the Yale Keypad is priced at $70. A bundle is available for $180. The devices are currently available in the US from Yale’s and August’s websites and will soon be available on Amazon and other retailers. They’ll also be available in Canada through Amazon.
