Adobe Purchases Video Clips to Train AI Model for Around $3 per minute

Adobe is reportedly purchasing video clips to train a new artificial intelligence (AI) model. This model is a text-to-video generator, similar to OpenAI’s Sora, which takes a text description and generates videos up to 60 seconds long.

Adobe is offering its network of photographers and artists around $3 per minute of video footage. The payments can range up to as much as $7.25 a minute. Adobe is specifically looking for more than 100 short clips of humans showing various emotions, completing different physical activities, or doing things with objects.

The company is taking an ethical and open approach to sourcing content for its AI model. Instead of scraping content, Adobe is buying it directly from creators. However, it’s worth noting that the video footage would be used to train an AI model, and artists are unlikely to see additional licensing revenue or royalties after the initial payments.

The company has added millions of 4K videos to its Adobe Stock library and is investing heavily in its Adobe Firefly generative AI platform. Adobe’s new text-to-video AI model is expected to help fill any gaps in its Adobe Stock library and further enhance its range of AI tools.
