Macs Spearhead Global PC Market Growth Amidst Return to Pre-Pandemic Levels

In the first quarter of 2024, Apple’s Macs led the global PC market in terms of year-on-year growth, despite not leading in volume. According to a report by IDC, Mac shipments saw a significant increase of 14.6% in Q1 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This growth rate was nearly ten times the average increase of 1.5% observed across all manufacturers.

Apple shipped 4.8 million Macs in Q1 2024, resulting in an 8.1% market share, up 1% from Q1 2023. This growth was driven by increasing shipments in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, while demand in China was weaker.

In comparison, Acer and Lenovo, the second and third highest in terms of growth, saw increases of 9.2% and 7.8% respectively. In terms of market share, Lenovo led with 23%, followed by HP with 20.1%, and Dell with 15.5%.

The report highlights that the global PC market has seen a slump over the last two years, with Q1 2024 marking a return to growth. Despite the deflationary pressures in China impacting the global PC market, PC shipments have begun to recover in most regions.
