Apple Lays Off Over 600 Employees Amid Project Cancellations

Apple Inc. has laid off more than 600 employees in California following the decision to end its car and smartwatch display projects. The layoffs were reported in filings with the California Employment Development Department. The employees affected were working at various offices, including those related to the car project and a secret facility for next-generation screen development.

The car project, known as Project Titan, was canceled due to indecision among executives about its direction and concerns about costs. The display program was shut down due to engineering, supplier, and cost challenges. Despite these setbacks, some members of the Apple car group were relocated to other teams, such as those working on artificial intelligence or personal robotics.
