Samsung’s One UI 6.1 Update: A Solution to OLED Display Burn-In

Samsung’s latest One UI 6.1 update has reintroduced a crucial feature to combat the screen burn-in issue in OLED displays. This feature was absent in the previous One UI 6.0 update, particularly affecting the Galaxy S23 series.

OLED displays, while known for their vibrant visuals, are susceptible to screen burn-in. This phenomenon occurs when static images left on the screen for extended periods cause permanent discoloration. To mitigate this, Samsung had implemented features like subtly shifting pixels, especially in areas like the status bar where icons remain in fixed positions. These features were present in One UI 5 but were mysteriously absent from the One UI 6.0 update.

With the release of One UI 6.1, Samsung has brought back these protections. Users have reported that status bar icons are subtly repositioning on the Galaxy S23 Ultra to prevent permanent image retention. The One UI 6.1 update is currently available for the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and other eligible devices.

In addition to addressing the burn-in issue, the One UI 6.1 update also introduces Galaxy AI features to enhance the Samsung phone experience further. This update is a significant step towards prolonging the lifespan of Samsung’s OLED displays, which are renowned for their quality.
