OpenAI’s ChatGPT Now Accessible Without Account Login

OpenAI has announced that its AI platform, ChatGPT, will no longer require an account for usage. This change applies specifically to ChatGPT, while other OpenAI products like DALL-E 3, which are paid services, will still necessitate an account for access. The decision to remove the account requirement for ChatGPT is part of OpenAI’s gradual rollout aimed at making AI more accessible to anyone interested in its capabilities.

Since its initial launch at the end of 2022, users interested in ChatGPT had to sign up for an OpenAI account. The chatbot quickly gained popularity, making ChatGPT one of the fastest-growing services ever. Following this, the company introduced paid subscriptions to access products like DALL-E 3 and more advanced models.

Despite the removal of the account requirement, users will still need an account to save and review chat history, share chats, and have voiced conversations. OpenAI reports that more than 100 million people across 185 countries use ChatGPT weekly. Traffic tracker SimilarWeb found that ChatGPT, with an estimated 1.6 billion visitors in February, remains the most visited AI chatbot site, even as Google’s Gemini begins to gain momentum.

OpenAI has also introduced additional content safeguards for this experience, including blocking prompts in a wider range of categories. However, the company did not elaborate on what these categories are. The option to opt out of model training will still be available, even to those without accounts. Users can toggle if their ChatGPT activity can be used to train OpenAI’s AI models.
