Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12: High-End Performance at a High Cost

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 is a top-tier business laptop that has been refined over the years. It retains its 14-inch LCD with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels. The laptop weighs 2.2 pounds and is 21 millimeters thick, making it a lightweight and portable choice for business users.

The laptop’s chassis is made from recycled aluminum, magnesium, aerospace-grade carbon fiber, and post-consumer materials. The design remains largely unchanged, with minor updates such as new tactile markings on the keyboard and a small ridge at the top of the screen for the webcam.

The major update is the inclusion of the new Intel Core Ultra CPU, specifically the Ultra 7 155H chip running at 1.4 GHz. This new chip is designed to offer improved artificial intelligence performance, better power efficiency, and enhanced integrated graphics. However, performance tests did not show a significant improvement over the previous generation.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 is priced at $2,829, which is considered expensive given its somewhat lackluster performance and middling battery life. Despite its high price, the laptop’s design, amazing keyboard, and dazzling screen make it a strong contender in the business laptop market.
