Microsoft’s Copilot Removed from Windows Server 2025

Microsoft has reportedly removed its artificial intelligence tool, Copilot, from Windows Server 2025 as part of Build 26085. This decision has been met with positive responses from users, who felt that the tool’s energy and computing resource consumption was unnecessary for Windows Server.

Copilot, which uses GPT technology from OpenAI, was added to Windows 11 in September 2023 to encourage more users to upgrade. However, its inclusion in Windows Server 2025 raised questions about whether it was a mistake, especially given its short lifespan on the server OS.

Despite the removal of Copilot, Microsoft’s blog post detailing Build 26085 did not mention the AI tool. This has led to speculation about whether Copilot will continue to be a part of the upcoming version of Windows Server 2025. Microsoft has not yet responded to these queries.

As of now, Windows 11 usage still stagnates at just over one-quarter, with the company’s latest OS accounting for 28% of all Windows installs, compared to 67% for Windows 10.
