Mint’s Departure Leads to Search for New Budgeting App

With the popular free budgeting app Mint no longer available, users have been on the hunt for a viable alternative. While Mint suggested users switch to Credit Karma, the latter does not offer the same budgeting features, leading to disappointment among many users.

In the search for a new budgeting app, several popular options were tested, including PocketGuard, Rocket Money, YNAB, Quicken Simplifi, and WallyGPT. The criteria for selection included customizable categories, flexibility to adjust budgets, a simple and intuitive user experience, valuable insights, and an affordable price.

After several weeks of testing, the author chose Rocket Money as the replacement for Mint. Both PocketGuard and Rocket Money were found to be comparable substitutions for Mint, but Rocket Money was preferred for its cleaner interface and sliding pricing scale. Rocket Money offers features such as linking to external accounts, automated savings, account sharing with a partner, credit score viewing, credit report tracking, and net worth tracking. The app is available for free, with a premium version available for $4 to $12 a month.
