Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi has stated that the company’s competitive edge in the AI space led to the recent departure of Snowflake CEO Frank Slootman. Ghodsi suggested that the pressure Databricks put on Snowflake, coupled with Snowflake’s lack of AI capabilities, contributed to Slootman’s decision to step down.
Slootman was succeeded by Sridhar Ramaswamy, who previously served as Snowflake’s Senior Vice President of Artificial Intelligence and had run an AI-focused startup. Ghodsi expressed respect for Slootman’s work at Snowflake and refrained from commenting further on his departure.
Databricks, a closely held analytics software maker, was valued at $43 billion in September. The company also announced plans to release an open-source large language model aimed at customers using their own proprietary data.
