Biden’s Campaign Leverages App to Connect with Voters

President Biden’s reelection campaign is testing a new tool to connect with voters who are increasingly tuning out politics. The campaign, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Democratic Party, is piloting a smartphone app called Reach. The app matches up phone contacts with a Democratic Party voter database and provides a regular stream of pro-Biden content that volunteers can text directly to their friends.

The pilot project is focusing on reaching Black voters in North Milwaukee and women in Republican-heavy suburban counties around Milwaukee. The app was originally developed during the first campaign of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The goal is to see if this tool can help connect with voters in new ways, particularly those who are hard to reach.

Despite the challenges, volunteers are willing to step out of their comfort zones to avoid a replay of the 2016 election. The app is being tested to see if it can help bring out votes from these specific demographics and potentially tip Wisconsin to Biden again in the upcoming election.
