Phil Schiller’s Unwavering Defense of the App Store

Phil Schiller, the former Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple, is now an Apple Fellow and is working nearly 80 hours a week to defend the App Store against antitrust allegations and developer criticism. Despite speculation that his transition to Apple Fellow was a step towards retirement, Schiller remains deeply involved in the company, responding to emails almost immediately and answering phone calls at any time.

Schiller shares his responsibilities of overseeing the App Store with marketing head Greg Joswiak and services chief Eddy Cue. However, he has emerged as the most prominent advocate for the App Store. Even Apple’s Chief Executive Tim Cook defers to Schiller on some App Store matters.

Schiller’s commitment to Apple extends beyond his professional responsibilities. His three main hobbies are cars, Boston sports teams, and Apple. He is also heavily involved in philanthropic endeavors, including an institute at Boston College, his alma mater, that carries his name, the Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society.
