Premium Subscribers on X to Access AI Chatbot Grok

Elon Musk has announced that all premium subscribers on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter, will gain access to the AI chatbot Grok this week. This move is seen as an attempt to compete with other popular chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, and possibly to increase X’s subscriber figures.

The announcement comes at a time when X is reportedly struggling to retain its user base. Data from Sensor Tower indicates that X’s usage in the U.S. was down 18% year-over-year as of February, and down 23% since Musk’s acquisition.

Grok, described as having a “rebellious streak,” will respond to questions about various topics, including controversial political ideas. It also has the unique ability to access real-time X data, a feature that rivals cannot offer. However, the value of this data may be diminishing if X continues to lose users.

X Premium is the company’s mid-tier subscription starting at $8 per month or $84 per year. Previously, Grok was only available to Premium+ subscribers, who pay $16 per month or $168 per year. The exact date when Grok will be available to X users has not been specified, only that it will be enabled for all Premium subscribers sometime later this week.
