Canva Acquires Affinity Suite to Expand Its Design Capabilities

Canva, the all-in-one visual communication platform, has announced its acquisition of Affinity, a suite of creative software popular among Mac users. This acquisition is Canva’s largest to date and is part of its strategy to compete with Adobe. The deal, a mix of cash and stock, is valued at several hundred million pounds.

Affinity’s suite includes professional photo editing, illustration, graphic design, and page layout software. The entire 90-person team of Serif, the UK-based startup responsible for Affinity’s portfolio, will join Canva. Affinity’s apps, which have been featured in Apple Inc.’s presentations of creative products, are seen as the final piece in Canva’s product offering.

The integration of Affinity’s professional design software will unlock the full spectrum of designers at every level and stage of the design journey. It will also accelerate Canva’s enterprise ambitions, enabling professional designers to craft designs and templates with Affinity that can scale across organizations with Canva.

This acquisition marks a significant step in Canva’s expansion of its range of professional tools and its vision to build the world’s most comprehensive suite of visual communication tools.
