His 2,700 songs have been streamed 15 billion times, making him Sweden’s most-played artist and placing him among Spotify’s top 100 most-streamed artists worldwide, above Michael Jackson, Metallica, and Mariah Carey. Much of his success is attributed to his presence on over 100 of Spotify’s official instrumental playlists, which are particularly popular among users seeking background music. However, critics argue that the success of a few anonymous artists like Röhr, who dominate the market, goes against the company’s promise to help small, independent musicians, record companies, and composers.
