Gen Z and Millennials’ Happiness Declines, Impacting U.S. Ranking

The World Happiness Report has revealed a significant decline in happiness among Americans, particularly among Gen Z and millennials. The report, which ranks over 140 countries based on self-reported happiness scores, found that young people in most regions tend to be the happiest. However, this pattern does not hold for youth in four English-speaking countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In these countries, older respondents reported higher happiness rankings than the young. This year, the United States fell out of the top 20 in happiness rankings for the first time since the report began over a decade ago. The report suggests that the loneliness epidemic, heightened after the pandemic, and the feeling of a lack of relative progress or success are contributing factors to this decline.
