Affordable Connectivity Program at Risk, Millions Could Lose Internet Access

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a lifeline for over 23 million low-income US households, is in danger of expiring in April. The program provides internet service discounts of up to $30 per month, or $75 for eligible recipients on tribal lands. If lawmakers don’t act quickly, these households could face higher bills or lose their internet access. This could disrupt their ability to do schoolwork, seek jobs, access healthcare, and connect to public services, thereby widening the digital divide. Despite the urgency, Congress is yet to approve the $6 billion needed to renew the ACP.
