Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft is set for its first astronaut flight, targeting a May launch. The spacecraft, which has faced numerous delays due to safety concerns, will carry NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry “Butch” Wilmore to the International Space Station. Two major safety hazards were recently addressed: the load capacity of Starliner’s parachutes and flammable protective tape used inside the vehicle. The parachutes were redesigned to meet NASA’s safety standards, and nearly a mile of the flammable tape was removed or replaced with barriers. The upcoming flight marks a significant step for Boeing, demonstrating Starliner’s ability to safely conduct crewed missions.
