3 million Saflok Keycards Hotel Locks Vulnerable to ‘Unsaflok’ Hack

Security researchers have discovered a technique, dubbed ‘Unsaflok’, that can open Saflok-brand RFID-based keycard locks in seconds. The Swiss lock maker Dormakaba’s Saflok systems are installed on 3 million doors worldwide. The technique exploits weaknesses in Dormakaba’s encryption and the underlying RFID system, MIFARE Classic. By obtaining any keycard from a target hotel and using a $300 RFID read-write device, hackers can create two keycards of their own. Tapping these two cards on a lock allows them to open it. The researchers have shared their findings with Dormakaba, who is working on a solution.
