Overwatch 2 is changing its approach to hero unlocks. Starting from Season 10, all existing and future heroes will be available for free, eliminating the need for Battle Pass or purchase unlocks. This includes Venture, the latest hero to join the roster next season. However, new players will still need to complete the first-time user experience and unlock the original Overwatch roster before gaining access to all Overwatch 2 heroes. The change is a return to the original Overwatch model, where heroes were automatically granted. The decision to paywall heroes was made prior to the 2022 launch as a monetization strategy for the free-to-play game. Additionally, Blizzard is increasing the number of coins players can earn in the free track from 540 to 600 coins. The update also introduces a new Mythic Shop for players to earn, upgrade, and unlock expensive skins for their heroes. The shop will include all older Mythic Skins dating back to Season 7. Lastly, Blizzard plans to release two new maps when Overwatch 2’s Clash mode debuts later this year.
