YouTube’s New Policy Mandates AI-generated Content Labeling

YouTube is implementing a new policy that requires creators to label videos containing AI-generated content. This move aims to increase transparency and prevent user confusion caused by synthetic content. The disclosure will be mandatory for realistic-looking synthetic content. When uploading a video, creators will see a checklist asking if their content makes a real person say or do something they didn’t do, alters footage of a real place or event, or depicts a realistic-looking scene that didn’t actually occur. Creators who repeatedly fail to disclose AI-generated or manipulated content could face consequences. The new policy is part of YouTube’s broader effort to manage the risks associated with the proliferation of AI tools that can generate compelling text, images, video, and audio.
