Rivian has started offering adapters to its customers, allowing them to access Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network. This makes Rivian the second automaker, after Ford, to do so. The adapters will be shipped to Rivian owners for free starting this spring. The company has not yet disclosed whether it will eventually charge a fee for the adapters. The adapters are a temporary solution for customers who have purchased electric vehicles (EVs) that rely on the Combined Charging System (CCS). Most automakers have announced that future EVs will incorporate Tesla’s charging technology. For instance, Rivian’s existing R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck will be produced with built-in Tesla charging tech next year. Rivian’s next-generation vehicles will also include the Tesla charging port. This move effectively adds 15,000 new fast chargers to Rivian owners’ options. Rivian is also expanding its own network of fast-charging stations, known as the Rivian Adventure Network.
