Nvidia has launched a cloud service, Nvidia Quantum Cloud, for researchers to test their quantum-computing software. The service initially comprises a data center stacked with AI chips and systems that simulate a quantum computer. While Nvidia’s cloud currently doesn’t have a quantum computer attached, it plans to provide access to third-party quantum computers in the future. Despite entering an already crowded arena, Nvidia’s quantum simulator will be integrated into offerings from Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Nvidia’s entry into quantum research is significant due to its graphics processing units’ ability to execute computations quickly, a feature crucial for quantum computer simulations. The company’s chips will also be used in the ABCI-Q supercomputer being built by Fujitsu for Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.
