Apple to Face Class-Action Lawsuit Over AirTag Safety Concerns

Apple is set to face a class action lawsuit after failing to dismiss claims that its AirTags have been used for stalking. US District Judge Vince Chhabria ruled that the plaintiffs sufficiently proved their case for negligence and product liability, although some claims were dismissed. The lawsuit alleges that despite warnings, Apple’s AirTags have become tools for stalkers due to inadequate safety features, leading to personal harm. Apple has implemented measures to alert users of unwanted tracking and has emphasized that using AirTags to track people without consent is illegal. However, the issue extends beyond Apple, as Tile faces a similar lawsuit for its tracking devices. Meanwhile, AirTags have also been used for positive purposes, such as recovering stolen vehicles and luggage.
