Regulators worldwide are urgently trying to hire AI experts to study and regulate the AI boom. However, the salaries they offer are far lower than those in the industry, causing a brain drain across governments. The European AI Office and the UK government have listed vacancies for AI specialists, offering salaries of €47,320 ($51,730) and £64,660 ($82,730) a year, respectively. In contrast, the median total compensation for workers at OpenAI is $560,000. The disparity in compensation between the public and private sectors is causing a significant challenge for regulators trying to keep up with the rapid advancements in AI.
