TikTok’s Uncertain Future in the US Senate

The fate of TikTok, used by 170 million Americans, is now in the hands of 100 senators. The House passed a measure to ban TikTok unless its Chinese owner, ByteDance, divests it. The legislation went from introduction to passage in just over a week, with most Republicans and Democrats united in concern about ByteDance. However, the bill faces a gauntlet of concerns and potential revisions in the Senate that could slow, stall or kill it. TikTok’s lobbying efforts have now turned to the Senate, where many previous legislative juggernauts have gone to die.
